Postures of Longsword Combat

Topic Progress:

The Quadrant Positions

A “posta” is a position that we take with the sword and body to both attack and defend. All defences and attacks begin and end in a posta. There are four primary positions we use in Italian Longsword:

  • Posta di Donna / Lady’s Position (upper right)
  • Posta di Donna Sinestra / Lady’s Position on the Left (upper left)
  • Dente al Cinghiara / Boar’s Tooth (lower left)
  • Porta di Ferro / Iron Gate (lower right)
