The fundamentals of the rapier supported by the offhand, over two classes, in this order:
- Supporting closed positions: the sword gives the main control while the offhand goes with it, closing off the opponent's next most obvious line
- From the sword into the offhand: find with the sword, then parry or gain with the offhand
- From the offhand into the sword: the offhand takes the main control when the opponent has taken your sword
