Fiore's six guards of the sword in armour, as they appear in his original manuscripts, two in each class:
- Posta Breve Serpentina: a low, point-forward half-sword guard for fencing
- Posta Vera Croce: a withdrawn half-sword guard for waiting, then crossing and entering
- Posta Serpentina Soprana: a half-sword guard held overhead that threatens high, then strikes powerfully from below
- Porta di Ferro Mezzana: held long, by the handle, to cast thrusts and then enter to the half sword
- Posta Sagitaria: a guard that refuses the point of the sword, then enters
- Croce Bastarda: a guard in the middle that waits, then enters on either side of the opponent's cut or thrust
