Receiving Gioco Largo (Sidesword Apprentice)

Gioco Largo (“Wide Play”) refers to the situations where the opponent’s point is out of the centerline or their weapon is withdrawn, in a position from where it makes attacks with broad motions. This month we’ll learn how to receive an opponent that holds their sword back. We’ll explore how to win the crossing in five different ways. Then we’ll focus on the counter-attacks after parring and deflecting.
