Cutting (Rapier Apprentice)

Cutting is not an action we associate with rapier fencing, yet we see it documented in numerous 17th century texts. This month we’ll be exploring cutting actions, including half-cuts and beats. We’ll also look at how we can use cutting to facilitate stringere. Learning how to cut with a rapier, especially looking at the body mechanics, is hard, so we will be using some of dall’Agocchie’s forms work on body mechanics to then apply to rapier.
