Powerful Wide Play 3: Entering and Deception

Provoke and deceive your opponent using footwork and bladework both to create safe space to enter and to open your opponent up to attack. Learn about deceptive footwork, attacks to miss, feints, and other provocations.

Wide play (gioco largo) can be a highly deceptive mode of fighting. When your blow takes a lot of time to arrive it also allows you a lot of time to change its intent and deceive your opponent about where and how you’re going to strike.

In this course you’ll bring together the skills of the mechanics, footwork, and multi-cut flow of the earlier courses in this series and learn how to use them to make deceptions of various sorts that will draw your opponent out of position.

You’ll learn:

  • How to deceive with footwork and bladework
  • Feinting using the “attack to miss” an intentionally short or off target attack
  • Provoking the opponent into unwise parries and counter-attacks
  • The flowing “feint by stramazonne”
