Gioco Stretto (the narrow play) describes a scenario where our opponent’s point is an immediate threat and we must move to cover it before and while we continue our attack. A lot of physics and pushing around is involved, and we must remain supple and committed to our defense throughout.

Blade Control: We will examine in detail how we physically control the opponent’s blade. Then we’ll work counter-actions to the opponent’s attempts to recover that control for themselves.

Blade Pressure: This is the heart of Gioco Stretto (the narrow play). When the two blades come into contact, we must sense the resulting intention of the opponent and immediately respond to maintain our offensive advantage. The bind can come about from cutting as well as having the blades already in the centreline space.

Acknowledgement of Safety and Risk

  1. Practice all exercises slowly and with control.
  2. Practice using training swords that are not sharp and are specifically made for practice.
  3. Use protective gear for all exercises. In many of our videos we are not wearing head, throat or body protection in order to make clear explanation more possible. You should always use protective gear when practicing these arts regardless of the exercise.
  4. Be aware that injuries in training are always possible. Ensure that you are practicing with care and caution at all times.
  5. DuelloTV is not responsible for any injuries that occur as a result of sword practice inspired from our videos.
