Description
The longsword sword and buckler are two beautiful disciplines that each have a lot to share with one another. In this course you’ll explore and develop your practice with both disciplines by taking one against the other.
First, with sword & buckler, you’ll learn how to:
- use your sword to channel the opponent’s weapon into your buckler,
- create broad areas of cover that make you difficult to strike,
- enter in close to take away the reach advantage of the longsword,
- and finally press and control with the buckler to fight powerfully on the inside.
Then, with the longsword, you’ll learn how to:
- maximize your reach advantage through the use of well placed thrusts,
- use your opponent’s buckler against them to screen their view,
- split the weapons and find the gaps in the opponent’s defenses,
- and work around the outside of the sword & buckler with deceptive cuts and thrusts.
Through a combination of solo and partner practice exercises you’ll expand your capacity with both of these weapon combinations when facing each other but also in all forms of both matched and unmatched sparring.
