Your capacity to continue to act after an initial attack is a vital ability for good sword fighting. Both of today’s drills focus on this skill. With longsword we’re making a one-handed thrust that you recover from with a one-handed yield. One handed thrusting can be risky if you don’t have a good way out, this exercise provides one. With rapier you’re going to practice how to follow-up a lunge with a redoubling pass; a passing lunge attack that can be used to chase down a fleeing opponent.
