Master Position. The Master Position gives us a basis to engage with our opponent by controlling their arms and legs. We’ll explore how we get into the master position, and conclude with a takedown from there.

Preventing Entry. What if we want to prevent entry altogether? As our partner comes to engage us we can take this opportunity to seize their arms or legs and conduct takedowns and throws.

Go Arounds. With go arounds we explore how to get in behind our partner’s defenses for holds and throws. We’ll also work several counter plays to prevent our partner from successfully acquiring control of our back.

Breaking the Grip. If we are caught in our opponent’s grip we can work several plays to break out of their control and exit measure, or strike and throw them.

Wrestles in the Grip. Alternately, we can stay in the grip and work strikes, throws and takedowns that give us an advantageous position or end the engagement to our satisfaction.

As with all of our courses, we especially encourage caution when training unarmed. These techniques are advanced, and are to be attempted only by martial artists who are trained in the fundamentals of movement, structure, striking, falling and body control.

Acknowledgement of Safety and Risk

  1. Practice all exercises slowly and with control.
  2. Practice using training swords that are not sharp and are specifically made for practice.
  3. Use protective gear for all exercises. In many of our videos we are not wearing head, throat or body protection in order to make clear explanation more possible. You should always use protective gear when practicing these arts regardless of the exercise.
  4. Be aware that injuries in training are always possible. Ensure that you are practicing with care and caution at all times.
  5. DuelloTV is not responsible for any injuries that occur as a result of sword practice inspired from our videos.
